
Let’s Talk About Quartz Tube Carbon Fiber Heating Lamps
If you’re running industrial thermal processes, you know the drill: you need heat, and you need it fast. That’s where our carbon fiber lamps come in. Instead of sticking with those old-school metal filaments, we use carbon fiber tucked inside high-purity quartz. The result? The heat doesn’t just sit on the surface. It actually sinks deep into your materials. Getting the power right Here’s the thing about performance: it all comes down to how much wattage you can cram into the length of the tube. If you go for high wattage in a short tube, you get an intense, concentrated hit of heat. We usually tune these to fit whatever power grid you’ve already got in your plant. If we go with a high-voltage setup, you aren’t pulling as much current. That’s a huge win because it means you can run more lamps on one circuit without worrying about tripping your breakers every ten minutes. Just a heads-up, though—make sure your wiring and contactors can actually handle the load. Otherwise, you’re just asking for a burnout. The build and the “gotchas” The quartz tube isn’t just for show. It keeps the carbon filament from oxidizing (which would kill the lamp) while letting the infrared energy slide right through. We use specific connectors—think R7s or Sk15—to make sure everything fits tight.**Do not ignore a loose connection.**A wiggly plug creates a hot spot, and before you know it, you’ve melted your socket. Depending on what you’re doing, we can even add a special coating. It can either bounce the heat back toward your workpiece or filter out specific wavelengths if you need something more precise. Making it work in your shop You’ll mostly see these in PET blowing, plastic welding, or drying lines. The best part? They heat up almost instantly. No more standing around waiting for the machine to warm up. But there’s a trade-off. Because these things put out so much heat, your cooling system and housing need to be up to the task. If the area around the lamp ends gets too hot, your seals will start to degrade. And if you’re thinking about just swapping an old lamp for one of these, be careful. Only do a “drop-in” replacement if the voltage and length are a perfect match for your current gear. If they aren’t, you’re playing with fire.
