And because it’s carbon fiber, it handles the heat way better than nichrome wires, which tend to oxidize and wear out much faster. Why the quartz? Here is the secret: the clear quartz lets short-wave infrared radiation fly right through. It doesn’t get trapped in the glass. The heat goes straight to your workpiece. It’s direct. It’s efficient. Plus, carbon fiber doesn’t expand and contract as wildly as metal does. That means you won’t deal with the filament sagging or snapping after a few hundred cycles. But a quick heads-up: quartz is glass. It’s fragile. Just make sure your mounting brackets aren’t squeezing the tube too tight. If there’s too much mechanical stress, it’ll crack when things get hot. Getting it running These usually slide right into place if you’re replacing an old halogen or metal-sheathed heater. Just double-check that your controllers can handle that first hit of inrush current when you flip the switch. One more thing. 1500W in such a small space creates some serious heat. You’ll want to make sure your fans or heat sinks are up to the task. If the ends of the tube get too toasted, those seals will burn out. And please, stick to 220V. If you push the voltage higher, you’re basically just trading the life of your filament for a few extra degrees. Not a fair trade.
